Version 2026-10-27 · Last updated 27 October 2026

What Teacher Hoot keeps about your family, what Hoot's AI sees, how long we keep it, and your rights — in plain English.

In short

  • Parents create the account and agree for their children. Children never sign up.
  • Hoot's AI only hears a child's age and grade — never their name, school or birthday.
  • AI can make mistakes — please check anything important.
  • No ads, no selling, no trackers. One cookie keeps you signed in.
  • Website questions are kept 6 months; the text of emails we send, 7 days.
  • You can see, correct or delete your family's information at any time.

1. Who looks after your information

LiveQbits (www.liveqbits.com) makes and runs Teacher Hoot and is responsible for the information in it (the “controller”). You can reach us at info@liveqbits.com or through Grown-ups › Settings › 💬 Contact us.

2. Children's privacy and your consent

  • Children never sign up and never give us an email address. A parent or guardian creates the account and adds each child.
  • When you create the account you confirm that you are the child's parent or guardian and give your consent for us to use your child's information as this policy describes — the parental consent that laws such as the GDPR and COPPA ask for.
  • We ask only for what Teacher Hoot needs: a child's name (a nickname is fine). Age, birthday, grade and school are optional — and the name, school and birthday are never sent to our AI provider.
  • No advertising, no selling of information, no chat with strangers, and no public profiles. Children never see another family's children.
  • You can see, correct or delete your children's information at any time (see Your rights).

3. What we keep

About you, the parent

  • Your name, email address and password — the password only as a scrambled “hash”, never as typed.
  • If you add them in My profile: a picture, mobile number, date of birth, nationality, country and city, gender and the language for emails. All optional.
  • When you signed up and last signed in, when you agreed to these terms (and which version), and small preferences such as whether you have seen the guided tour.

About your family and children

  • The family's name, the parent PIN (as a hash), the plan and any purchases.
  • Each child's name, age or birthday, grade, school, picture (an emoji), time zone and settings.
  • What each child does in Teacher Hoot: questions to Hoot and the answers, quizzes and answers, lessons and checks, notes, highlights, flashcards, test and homework dates, study guides, stars, badges and study time.
  • On Hoot Premium, the pieces of writing for the ✍️ essay coach: every draft, Hoot's marks, comments and hints, and the photos of handwritten pages.

Your books

  • The files you upload, the words Hoot reads from them and the pictures inside them.

Other things

  • The email addresses you invite or share a subject with, and when they accept.
  • If you turn on notifications: a code for each device from its browser's push service.
  • A record of the emails we send you (to whom, the subject, when). Their text is cleared after 7 days.
  • Technical records: errors (with the page where they happened), and how much AI each family used and what it cost.
  • On the website's 💬 Ask Hoot: the questions and answers, a random id for the browser and a scrambled version of your internet address (never stored as it is). Ask Hoot can't see any account.
  • If you send a School licence enquiry: what you type in the form.

4. Why we use it

  • To run Teacher Hoot for your family— your account, your children's spaces, reading the books, lessons, answers, quizzes, guides, progress and reminders (to provide the service you asked for).
  • To send you emailsyou need: welcome, password reset, invitations, receipts, plan reminders and, if you keep them on, your children's week and homework past its day (you can switch those off in Settings).
  • To keep it safe and working — sign-in, security checks, fixing errors and limiting AI spending (our legitimate interest in a safe, reliable service).
  • To take payments and keep the records the law requires.
  • With your consent— for a child's information, the consent you gave as their parent or guardian; and device notifications, which you turn on yourself.

We don't sell your information, show ads, or use your family's information to train AI.

5. What Hoot's AI sees

Hoot thinks with Claude, an AI made by Anthropic. To answer a question, teach a lesson, write or mark a quiz, give a hint or write a study guide, Teacher Hoot sends Anthropic:

  • the question or the task, and the parts of the child's books it needs (not the whole library);
  • the child's age and grade — never their name, school or birthday;
  • when a child asks Hoot a question, a few of that child's own notes and highlights in the subject (the child or you can switch this off: “Hoot can read my notes” in their Settings).

Your own profile (name, email, mobile, picture) is never sent to the AI. Anthropic processes what we send to give the answer, under its commercial terms, which don't allow it to use our families' information to train its models.

🤖 AI can make mistakes.Hoot's lessons, answers, quizzes, marking, hints and study guides are written by artificial intelligence from the books your family adds. LiveQbits works hard to make them as accurate as possible, but we cannot guarantee that they are always correct, complete or suitable for your child's school. Please check anything important — homework, revision for a test, facts and figures — against the books or with the teacher.

6. Who else handles it

We use a few trusted providers, each only for its job and under an agreement to protect your information:

ProviderWhat forWhat it gets
Anthropic (Claude)Hoot's AIAs in What Hoot's AI sees
Microsoft Azure AI SpeechHoot's natural voice in lessons (when your plan has it)The sentences Hoot reads aloud — no names
ResendSending emails, from no-reply@teacherhoot.comYour email address and the email
StripePayments for paid plansWhat you pay for, and the card details you give Stripe directly
Your browser's push service (Google, Apple, Mozilla, Microsoft)Reminders on a device, if you turn them onThe reminder's words, to that device

Inside Teacher Hoot, the other parents of your family see the family's children and books. Another family you share a subject with gets its books only — never your child, their answers, chats, quizzes, guides or stars. Our team can see account information when it is needed to help you or to keep the service safe. We would give information to the authorities only when the law requires it.

Some providers work outside your country (for example in the United States). Where the law asks for it, we rely on safeguards such as the standard contractual clauses.

7. How long we keep it

  • Your account, family, children and books: while the account exists. A child or subject you remove is archived (so it can be brought back) until the family is deleted.
  • Questions asked on the website's Ask Hoot: 6 months, then deleted automatically.
  • The text of emails we send: cleared after 7 days; who it went to, the subject and when stay as a record.
  • Password-reset links work for 1 hour, invitation and share links for 14 days; only a scrambled form is kept.
  • Payment records: as long as tax and accounting law requires.
  • When a family is deleted, everything of the family — children, books and files, quizzes, chats, lessons, guides — is deleted for good. A record of AI costs, without any content, stays for our accounts.

8. Cookies and this device

  • One cookie keeps you signed in (hoot.auth, for 30 days from your last visit). It can't be read by the page's scripts and is only sent to Teacher Hoot.
  • On the device(the browser's storage, never sent to us by itself): which child is studying and their subject, the notepad, display choices such as the owl pointer, the Grown-ups unlock while it is open in this tab, and the website Ask Hoot's random browser id.
  • No advertising or tracking cookies, and no third-party analytics.

9. Keeping it safe

Passwords, the PIN and every emailed link are stored only as hashes. Each family's information is checked on every request so no other family can reach it; files are only ever given out after that check. Secret keys are kept encrypted, and connections are encrypted (HTTPS). No system is perfect: if something went wrong that put your information at risk, we would tell you and the authorities as the law requires.

10. Your rights

You — and, through you, your children — can:

  • see and correct it: most of it is in Grown-ups (My profile, Children, Subjects & books); for anything else, ask us;
  • get a copy of your family's information — download it yourself at any time in Grown-ups › Settings › 📦 Download my family's data: one .zip with the books, quizzes, talks with Hoot, lessons, study guides, notes, flashcards and writing (with every draft, Hoot's feedback and the photos of handwritten pages), readable by you and by other apps;
  • have it deletedfor good — a child, or the whole family's account (in Grown-ups you can already remove books, and archive children and subjects);
  • object to or limit how we use it, and withdraw your consent at any time (this means closing the account);
  • complain to the data protection authority where you live.

Write to info@liveqbits.com from the email you sign in with. We answer within one month.

11. Changes to this policy

When we change this policy we update the version and the date at the top. If a change matters for you, the Grown-ups area shows “We've updated our Terms and Privacy Policy” and asks you to agree again. See also our Terms of Use.
